Van Buren Baseball traveled to Beechwood High School in Kentucky to take on Holy Cross in an opening day double-header. Brayden Gilts picked up the win in Game # 1 by throwing 4 innings of 1-run baseball. Matthew Puperi game in and pitching 3 innings, while only giving up one run. Carson Cripple led the way with 3 hits, while Brady Lance and Finn Martin each had 2. Seven Black Knights collected RBI's for the opening game of the 2026 season. Game 2 had Brayden Mason picking up the win, going 3.1 innings and giving up 6 earned runs. Also pitching for the Black Knights were Schofield (2.2 IP, O ER) and Konwiczka (1.0 IP, O ER). Brady Lance collected 3 hits and 2 RBI's, while Trace Kisseberth delivered 3 RBI's and Finn Martin plated two teammates. The Black Knights return to action on the road Monday at Fostoria. First pitch is set for 5:00 PM.
