BACK TO BACK BVC CHAMPS
ADA – Van Buren’s girls collected three individual championships and won a relay Friday night in Ada, and the Black Knights won their second consecutive BVC team title.
The Black Knights outlasted runner-up Elmwood, 131 ½-105 1/2.
In the boys meet, Liberty-Benton won in its final meet in the BVC, its fourth consecutive conference title.
For the Van Buren girls, Sophia Webster won the 3,200 in 12:42.97, while in the 4x800, Webster teamed with Kaitlyn Hohman, Bryar Kendrick and Grace Harrington, to win in 10:22.35.
Homan took first in the 800 in 2:27.04. The Black Knights final win came from discus thrower Easton Wymer, who tossed 125-10.
Elmwood was paced by a pair of two-event winners in Heavenlei Newson and Alayna Beasley. Newson claimed both hurdles, taking the 100 in 17:01, and the 300 in 48.10.
Beasley was victorious in the 1,600 (5:41.9) and the long jump (16-2).
Riverdale finished third (97), and was led by Marissa Bonham, who won the 400 in 59.35, the high jump at 5-4, and anchored the Falcons winning 4x4 team that included Paige Vent, Emma Kemmere and Tamija Altvater and crossed the line in 4:10.1
Liberty-Benton’s girls took fourth with 95 points. They were paced by Josie Hochstettler, who won the pole vault by clearing 11-1.
One of the best performances from the evening came from Arlington freshman Alexis Gieser. She was part of four winning events, and helped the Red Devils to a fifth-place finish, with 84 points.
Gieser won the 100 (12.57), the 200 (25.44) and was part of the winning sprint relays.
Geiser anchored the Red Devils 4x100 team, which included Paige Clevenger, Callie Hartman, Olivia Pepple and won in 50.79, and the 4x200, which included Clevenger, Hartman and Izzy Kretz, which won in 1:56.56
Ada took sixth with 44½ points, while Pandora-Gilboa placed seventh with 36.
Arcadia, which was paced by Shia Watkins’ win in the shot put, took eighth with 25 points. Watkins threw 36-9.
Rounding out the girls team scores were McComb (22) and Leipsic 15½.
On the boys side, L-B was led by Karson Griffin, who won the 100 in 11:22, the 200 in 22.18, and then joined Bradan Bell, Jaxon Rath and Jonas Frederick to take the 4x2 in 1:31.30. Bell and Frederick teamed with CJ Barbara and Asher Norman to win the 4x1 in 43.89.
Meanwhile, the Eagles’ Jackson Hochstettler won the BVC championship in the 800 for the fourth time, running in 2:00.67. L-B’s Will Granger won the shot, throwing 53-5½. That helped the Eagles pile up 135 points, bettering runner-up Arlington, which had 116½.
The Red Devils had a four-time BVC champion of their own: 2024 state champion Calvin Willow cleared 6-7 to win the high jump.
Arlington also won the 4x400, with Trevor Anderson, Lucas McIlroy, Eli Hurt and Cuyler Rausch running in 3:24.61.
Pandora-Gilboa had 73 points, holding off Riverdale by a half-point for third.
Ben Burkholder cleared 15-0 to win the pole vault for the Rockets, while Adam Buell, Jack Buell, Gavino Barrera and Landen Moore took first in the 4x800 in 8:22.11. Also for the Rockets, Camden Verhhoff won the 300 hurdles in 40.89.
Riverdale’s fourth-place finish was highlighted by Kolten Evans, who took first in the 1,600 in 4:35.21, and by Grant Inbody, who threw 157-3 to claim the discus crown.
McComb (68) placed fifth, led by Carter Frater, who won the 110 hurdles (14.9) and the long jump (23-5).
Van Buren finished sixth with 51 points, and Elmwood was seventh with 46. Leipsic finished two points behind Elmwood for eighth.
The top Royals’ performer was Henry Good, who won the 3,200 in 10:01.95.
Ada was ninth with 40 points, led by Kayleb Hickman, who won the 400 in 50.42.
Vanlue (14) and Arcadia (2) rounded out the boys team standings.
