Black Knights Walk It Off Against Elmwood

BLACK KNIGHTS WALK IT OFF AGAINST ELMWOOD

Van Buren took Wednesday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 6-5 walk-off victory over Elmwood at Marathon Diamonds. The game was tied at five in the bottom of the eighth when Caleb Mason singled, scoring one run. The Black Knights came back to win despite trailing 5-0 in the third. Elmwood got on the board in the top of the third inning after Hunter Plotts was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Adam Abke drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, and Kason Hammer hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run. Blake Stutzman grounded out, which helped Van Buren tie the game at five in the bottom of the seventh. Brayden Gilts earned the win for Van Buren. The Senior pitcher gave up three hits and five runs (one earned) over eight innings, striking out four and walking three. Abraham Keiffer took the loss for Elmwood. The hurler went one and one-third innings, surrendering one run on one hit, striking out none and walking two. Gabe Schafer started the game for Elmwood. The hurler surrendered three hits and four runs over five and two-thirds innings, striking out six and walking five. Brady Lance provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Van Buren with two runs batted in. Will Rampe led the offense with two hits in five at bats from the leadoff position. Reid Cramer paced Van Buren with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing nine walks for the game. Carter Goetz provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Elmwood with two runs batted in. Abke, Marshal Taft, and Ryken Zeigler each collected one hit for Elmwood. Van Buren will face Patrick Henry Friday night in the OHSAA District Finals, held at Napoleon. Game time is set for 5:00 PM.
